Collection: Liz Ewings

Liz Ewings paints waterscapes. Before returning to Seattle to study natural science illustration and oceanography at the UW, she spent 18 years designing menswear in Seattle, Portland, and Los Angeles. She fell in love with humpback whales the first time she saw them in Australia and spent summers working as an expedition guide in coastal Washington and Alaska. She makes art about the ocean because this seemingly vast expanse is filled with multitudes of shifting micro-environments, each with its own living community.

Her work has been exhibited at Arts at King Street Station, Cannonball Arts, and the Burke Museum in Seattle. Her public art installations have been shown at Occidental Park in Seattle and in downtown Seattle for Seattle Restored. She was included in Downtown Santa Monica’s Artist’s Alley Project. Her work is in the collection of the Director of the UW School of Oceanography and has been purchased for Seattle City Light. She is a member of Seattle’s public artist roster.
