Collection: Current Exhibition - Gossip: Between Us

Opened August 9, 2025, on extended view.

Gossip has irrevocably been linked to women and feminized subjectivities. The meaning of this word has been trivialized to "idle talk "and has had a global and long-standing impact. However, gossip has been a critical mode of transmitting knowledge, as women have historically employed gossip to weave memories, oral histories and collaborative practices. This acquired knowledge and wisdom has allowed communities the opportunity to create collective identities and an acute sense of togetherness, most particularly in the lives of women and queer artists. Gossip is an ephemeral practice and language of solidarity, and can be a viable path to knowledge attainment, considering its sustained activity and evolution in human history. Gossip: Between Us highlights women and queer artists in TAM’s permanent collection, who hand down interpersonal knowledge and histories, from their position in the world, through the works displayed. Organized by Tacoma Art Museum and curated by Victoria Miles.
