This catalog is published in conjunction with Tacoma Art Museum’s exhibition, Zhi Lin: In Search of the Lost History of Chinese Migrants and the Transcontinental Railroads. Lin tells the story of the seldom mentioned Chinese migrant workers of the mid-1800s. These men traveled to the United States for the California Gold Rush, but most ended up working on the transcontinental railroads. Lin collaborated with TAM to create one-of-a-kind works discussing the role Tacoma had in these workers' stories.
Lin studied printmaking at the Academy of Art in Hangzhou, China. He also received a higher diploma in fine art from the Slade School of Fine Art in 1989, as well as an MFA from the University of Delaware in 1992. Today, Lin teaches painting at the University of Washington. His work is included in collections at various galleries ranging from Princeton University Museum to the National Fine Art Museum in Beijing.
