Figure 2, Endure Series
The vessel is placed in a large metal can, then nested in a variety of organic materials, including sawdust, pine/cedar chips, coffee grounds, copper carbonate, organic compost, leaves, etc. After being lit, the can smolders for roughly 4-8 hours. During the process, the porous unglazed pieces inside are absorbing the smoke and the organic materials inside. Afterwards, the pieces are removed while they are still very hot, and sprayed with ferric acid, or left to cool.
To protect the surface of the pots, they are given a light coat of polycrylic or Liquid Quartz to allow them to be cleaned with a lint free cloth afterwards.
