Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Grafton Tyler Brown migrated to San Francisco in search of opportunities. He worked as a lithographer and started his own company producing maps, plates, and bank notes for Wells Fargo and Levi Strauss Company. Brown also mastered classic landscape painting. His paintings of western landscapes reflect Brown’s desire to document the threatened natural environment he loved.
