Chihuly began developing his body of work titled Niijima Floats in 1991 creating, at that time, some of the largest pieces of glass ever blown by hand. Over the last two decades, these multi-hued spheres have become integral to Chihuly’s garden exhibitions, often presented in groupings floating on water or within installations of Mille Fiori. Sterling Floats offers a two-dimensional representation of this series in glass with each form defined by pewter and black acrylic paint. Vibrant red and yellow dots speckle the interiors providing energy and momentum as the two Floats ricochet across the field of view.
